Construction:
The Universal Expansion Bellow shown consists of:
1. Upper Flange
Provides connection to the process piping.
2. First Metallic Bellows
Flexible stainless-steel convolutions absorb thermal movement and vibration.
3. Central Spool / Intermediate Pipe
Connects the two bellows and increases the lateral movement capability.
4. Second Metallic Bellows
Works together with the first bellows to accommodate piping displacement.
5. Lower Flange
Provides connection to the opposite pipe section.
6. Tie Rod / Control Rod Assembly
Controls the movement of the joint and, in a fully restrained configuration, transfers pressure thrust loads.
The Universal Expansion Bellow is a flexible metallic expansion joint designed to absorb large lateral pipe movements caused by thermal expansion, vibration, equipment movement and piping misalignment.
The assembly incorporates two metallic bellows connected by a central spool pipe. The tie-rod/control-rod arrangement stabilizes the central spool and, in tied configurations, can absorb the pressure thrust generated by internal pressure. This makes the universal configuration particularly suitable for complex piping layouts and large lateral offsets
